OMGYEARLIESCRAPCRAPCRAPEIGHTORSEVENWHATEVERNUMBERITWASLEFTTOGOSTUDYSTUDYSTUDY!
Okay. Now the yearly stress is out, time for a fun hypothetical situation!
Imagine…you’re walking along one day, tiredly staring at the sky, slowly dragging two feet…one slow step at a time. Burning thirst, raging heat, sweat drips across eyes…
…and sees an energy drink pop out of nowhere! ^^
The name; Pocari Sweat.
The Ingredients; Water, Sugar, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Lemon Juice, Salt, Citric Acid, Sodium Chloride, Calcium Lactate, Monosodium Glutamate, Artificial Flavor, Magnesium Carbonate, Ascorbic Acid.
The special things it contains; Magnesium, Sodium, Potassium and Calcium ions.
The thing looks like; Picture down there.
…would you buy it?
I love engrish. Or in this case, Japlish.
Apparently this Pocari Sweat is a popular Japanese soft drink and sport drink, first sold in 1980. It’s typical electrolute-replacing drink, good for replacing salts etcetc. The only thing putting me off was the name.
The story behind this rather-extremely-strange-name;
‘The reference to the bodily fluid resulting from persperation in the name of the beverage tends to have a certain offputting or humourous connotation for native English speakers. However, the name was chosen by the manufacturers originally for the purpose of marketing the product as a sports drink in Japan, where people generally do not mentally translate names appearing in English and are therefore not bothered by the connotation. It was largely derived from the notion of what it is intended to supply to the drinker: all of the nutrients and electrolytes lost when sweating (the first part of the name, Pocari, means “like a cloud floating in the sky” or “a situation in which a cloud is floating in the sky” in Japanese, and has a connotation of lightness, buoyancy, and ease). “Sweat” was apparently intended to suggest diligence and its fruits—the idea intending to connote to the user that Pocari Sweat works to make one feel fresh and relaxed. However, some Japanese apparently drop “Sweat” from the name in common usage.’
Oh. So that’s the explanation. Yeah, I just copied+pasted all that from wiki. Cheapness. XD
The taste; Um. It’s…like…very…interesting. Tastes like orange. Tastes like artificial orange. Tastes like children’s panadol mixed in water. Must be the Monosodium Glutamate in it. I don’t even know what Monosodium Glutamate is, but it sounds pro.
Bottom Line; I’ll stick with normal Powerade. Though it’s better than some energy drinks. *coughVcough*

Monosodium Glutamate is MSG. You know, that controversial stuff that they put in instant noodles, that makes it taste nice but is supposed to be horrible for you?
I’d probably be able to drink Pocari Sweat, as long as it’s not too viscosis. I rememeber drinking this Aloe Vera in China, and it was half-solid because it was made entirely from actual Aloe Vera “guts”.
I agree, V tastes weird.
